South Downs Expedition 2017

A good time was had by all who attended this club event on a fine and warm evening. The rig consisted of the Club's IC7400 100W transceiver, running from a generator via a mains PSU; the antenna was a short boom, 5 element Yagi at 20ft above ground pointing north-west. Our operating location was from the end of the Devil's Dyke National Trust car park (IO90VV) which is 700ft above sea level on the South Downs near Brighton.

As usual we were interested in chatting rather than "contesting" and the Dorking Club was complimented on putting on a /P station for that purpose. Thanks to all members who helped out at the QTH and on the air.

Club members attending were: Jon G0GNA, Tony G4XYC, Dennis G4EYB, Mike 2E0ESU, Keith 2E0GBK and Roger M3FZE, we were also joined by Phil G4UDU from Findon.

Stations worked, that got logged, between 18:05 and 20:45 giving us good signal reports on 2m SSB were:

  • 2E0INF Howard
  • G3NPC Garth
  • GW8JLY Lyn IO 81 ?? Cardiff
  • G4CMU George
  • M00JO Nick IO91KI Aldermaston
  • GM4JJJ David IO86GB Fife
  • M0BGL Alan IO91RM Slough

  • M0OJG John IO92BF Alcester
  • G1IMS Ian Hertford
  • G6AHX Simon IO82WA Tewkesbury
  • G8ZVZ Ian IO82SB Hereford

And on digital modes, Keith 2E0GBK received some APRS signals from Alton, Raynet and several French radio clubs.

As is now traditional, at the end of the evening, we admire the sun setting and panoramic views from this amazing location, before deconstructing and enjoying supper at the nearby restaurant.
