Dorking & District Radio Society

On most Thursdays between 2pm and 9pm, the club is able to access a fixed amateur radio station (callsign M0ESG) at the 7th Epsom Scout headquarters, which is behind the Epsom Methodist Church Hall, 11-13 Ashley Road, Epsom, KT18 5AQ.

There is a fixed HF dipole, a rotatable beam and 2m vertical antenna available, with a fixed HF rig and space for several other operating positions. Training courses are held here, where hands-on experience can be gained. Please contact John Kelly or Keith Bell if you wish to make use of this opportunity.

Each October, the station usually takes part in the annual Jamboree on the Air, which the club supports by providing experienced qualified operators, who are available to answer questions and enable members of all the Scout sections to participate. Scouts can also join in over the internet. In 2018, we introduced members of two Epsom scout groups to JOTA, amateur radio and morse code, which helped with their badge work.

In February there is a similar event for the Girl Guides: World Thinking Day on the Air.
